Suggestions for Handling Asbestos

1. If possible, don't handle asbestos yourself. Employ a professional to do the work.

2. Wear a mask approved to the Australian Standard AS 1715 to protect against asbestos.

3. Always thoroughly wet the area to redice dust.

4. Whereever possible, use hand tools rather than power tools.

5. Keep family and other people away from the work area. 6. Wear old clothes and discard them in a sealed bag after you finish. Keep you mask on until the full clean up is complete.

7. Always use a properly sealed vacuum cleaner and not a broom to clean up.

8. Put the vacuum bag carefully into a rubbish bag and seal it. Then remove your mask and seal it in a rubbish bag.

9. Never place asbestos waste in your garbage bin or take them to the tip. Call your council and ask them about safe disposal.

10. If you are not sure whether your home contains asbestos containing materials, call a professional.
